Gooseberry Falls is along the North Shore of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota. The Gooseberry River cascades over the rocky terrain making for a spectacular waterfall that is part of the Gooseberry State Park. The state park was officially created in 1937 by the Minnesota legislature. The buildings and structures in the park were build using local stone by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
On the land next to the falls was a large CCC camp where two hundred young men lived. They learned construction and conservation techniques while earning $30 a month. The camp ended in 1941 and if you hike the trails near the falls you can still see some of the stone foundations from the old buildings.
